About this Event
South Hall, 1st Floor, 621 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02115
#Brant GalleryZainab Sumu is a contemporary artist whose work spans sculptural fibers, couture, and painting. A thread travels across continents, from the marketplaces of Freetown to the boulevards of Paris, from the sundrenched streets of Los Angeles to the quiet rhythm of Cambridge, weaving together memory, material and meaning. Each piece is a vessel of heritage, ritual, and beauty. Through her studio, Znabu, she explores the spiritual and aesthetic power of tradition, infusing kindness and storytelling into every thread and form.
Her practice draws from sacred African traditions to reframe global narratives. By centering the beauty, dignity, and complexity of Africa and its diaspora, she reveals the universal truths that connect us all. Rooted in sustainability, her pieces are often created with hand-dyed organic yarns, leather remnants, and plant-based inks. They offer a tactile language of resilience and reverence.
Founded by Lucy Rosenburgh in late 2024, Caira Art Editions publishes prints in all media with a growing roster of Boston-area artists and printers. Caira’s aim in publishing is to support the artist in their exploration of a new material, while providing a new market. Caira also partners with organizations to publish benefit editions. Seeing Boston’s artists and institutions garner recognition nationally and internationally, Caira encourages collectors to grow with them as active contributors to the artistic community. Art makes all of our lives richer.
Lucy has more than two decades of experience in the art world with expertise in prints, modern and contemporary art history, and the international art market. She was a specialist in Prints at Sotheby’s in their New York and London sales rooms, before returning home. Subsequently, she built and curated private and institutional collections with Kate Chertavian Fine Art. Having started her career here and now settled permanently in our city, she recognizes the artistic energy already present and seeks to help make Boston a thriving center that supports and encourages artists.
