About this Event
181 Vassal Lane, Cambridge
We’re thrilled to share that our very own Ekua Holmes, CACP Associate Director and Director of sparc! the ArtMobile, has created a breathtaking 40-foot mosaic mural as part of Cambridge’s new public schools project.
Titled You Belong Here, the mural stretches across a light-filled hallway at the new Tobin Vassal School, where it will greet students, parents, faculty, and visitors each day. Inspired by the feeling of neighborhoods, she wanted the artwork to be something everyone could connect with, a reminder that they are seen, valued, and part of this community.
Funded through Cambridge’s Percent-for-Art Ordinance, Ekua’s mural joins works by artists Andromeda Lisle, Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya, and the Community Grafting Project by TSKP x IKD. Together, these artworks celebrate themes of community, memory, and belonging, enriching the school environment while connecting students and neighbors to Cambridge’s cultural heritage.
Educators in the new building are praising the mosaic mural and have described being “awed” by the artistry and scale.
The public is warmly invited to the Grand Opening Celebration on Saturday, October 18 (10am–3pm). Explore the building, experience these extraordinary new artworks, and celebrate the creativity shaping Cambridge’s next generation.
