Ballistic Architecture Machine (BAM) is not comfortable aligning with a discipline category.  Architecture is often not the solution to a better built environment.  Fluidity across skillsets in architecture, art, and landscape helps us to imagine and realize relevant ideas that improve lives.  In the beginning, we said Yes to any opportunity and defined our own problems.  We treated each, from the flashy and flamboyant to the lowly and unwanted, with equal exuberance.  “Just Say Yes” is a talk about BAM’s Inclusionary Tactics, or the ways we champion difference on multiple fronts: leadership difference, cultural difference, method difference, discipline difference.  Following our unbeaten path, BAM continually evolves to be a resource for the world.

Allison co-founded Ballistic Architecture Machine (BAM), the multidisciplinary American design office based in Beijing  & Shanghai. In its tenth year of practice as of 2017, BAM has built over 50 and delivered over 100 architecture/art/ landscape projects in China and internationally. BAM’s “just say yes” approach has produced an explosive breadth of  work from public parks, playgrounds, gardens, and streetscapes to cultural art installations, parade floats, and stage sets.  Spurred by a drive to realize ideas that improve urban life, BAM loves local culture, working with builders, and inventive  details. Allison directs a dynamic, creative team of cross-disciplinary designers who take play seriously. Milton Glaser,  America’s celebrated graphic designer, describes Allison, analogous to BAM, as “enormously inventive” with “very  special talents that are enormously impressive and difficult to quantify.”
