Tuesday Talks - Spencer Luckey

Please join the Architecture Department for our weekly Tuesday Talks series, this week featuring Spencer Luckey, presenting Safe and Crazy

Spencer Luckey is president and chief kid architect of Luckey LLC, a design-build firm that creates bespoke children's climbing sculptures for institutional and commercial clients around the world. Creating soaring, whimsical, gravity-defying play structures for kids, Spencer is helping to reinvent the state of play, inspiring it with the limitlessness of a child’s imagination and the complexities of conceptual art.

After completing his Masters degree at the Yale School of Architecture, Spencer rejoined Luckey Climbers in 2006 after his father, Thomas Walker Luckey, suffered a terrible accident and was without movement or feeling below his neck. They worked together until his passing in 2012 taking the Climbers to new heights as they push the boundaries of sculpture, play, art and design with each piece.

Today, there are over 80 unique Luckey Climbers inspiring kids and adults across the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, for clients ranging from museums and public spaces to shopping centers and even cruise ships.

When not designing Luckey Climbers, Spencer can be heard playing guitar and pedal steel in various haunts, dives and private affairs. Spencer lives with his wife and son in East Haven, CT, and hopes to one day sail around the world
