This facilitated conversation aims to explore the role of craft in 21st-century art education across disciplines and media to foster an inclusive learning environment for students. We will discuss shared practices around these questions: How is craft defined in our disciplines and how do our students understand craft? How do we assess students’ learning of craft? What impacts does our teaching of craft have on students’ overall learning and creative practice? We hope this generative space is the beginning of a dialogue between faculty from two departments that teach a range of foundational craft skills to every student at MassArt: Humanities and Studio Foundation.
