Prelude to the Dawn is a solo exhibition of Hiu Ching Leung, a senior painting major. The exhibition is about Hong Kong. Since June 2019, Hong Kongers have been aiming to break away the weighty vase of Chinese history, and liberate themselves from the power of Beijing, China. Hiu-Ching as a young Hong Kong artist, who now studies in the United States as a painter, she has the privilege, freedom, and courage to respond to this political period without inhibition, censorship or limitation. Her work explores her personal journey to capture her inner conflicts and understanding of the world that’s bounded by the economy, history, and political circumstances.
Hiu-Ching has invested in becoming an artist by beginning the process with her undergraduate experience at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, as well as recently doing the artist International residency at RED GATE GALLERY in Beijing. She has applied and participated in a variety of group exhibitions in the Boston area as well as a few international projects, such as The Boston Key Party at The Stove Factory Gallery, Charlestown, MA, Red Gate Residents’ Show in Beijing, China, 35x35 Chinese Art Project by Copelouzos Family Art Museum, Athens, Greece, etc. She has won the prizes for painting; Rob Moore Grant in Painting & Artist and Craftsman Award at Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
