PAINT! JAZZ! is a community art event in which participants create together in response to live jazz music from the Makanda Project while observing a featured local artist, Robert Murrell, '74, at work. Using markers, colored pencils, and pastels, participants can either work on a collaborative drawing or their own pieces. Art supplies provided free of charge by sparc! the ArtMobile. The intersection of jazz and art will take on many creative forms. Come join us for a rich experience in Dudley Square - the heart and soul of Roxbury!!

PAINT! JAZZ! was a wonderful event--as always. The Makanda Project musicians--both local and those who travel to Boston to participate--never disappoint; sparc! art-making tables were busy the entire event!! What a pleasure to hear great music and to see the community making art to finger-popping rhythms. Askia Touré, an African-American poet, essayist, political editor and leading voice of the Black Arts Movement skillfully delivered poetry during select songs. A great evening!!
