The Department of Film and Video is pleased to welcome Alain Gomis to the MassArt Ciné Culture Screening series on Tuesday April 5, 2022 at 7pm EST via Zoom. Members of the MassArt community are invited to an in-person screening of Gomis' film Félicité on Monday, April 4 at 7pm in the Design and Media Center Lecture Hall.

Alain Gomis is a Franco-Bissau Guinean-Senegalese director. He was born in 1972 in France, where he grew up. His first two short films, Tourbillons followed by Petite Lumière, were selected for awards at several international festivals. In 2001, his first feature-length film, L’Afrance, won the Silver Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival. Then came Andalucia in 2007 starring Samir Guesmi, then Tey starring Saul Williams, which was selected for competition at Berlin and won the Golden Stallion at Fespaco in 2013. A partner at Granit Films along with Newton Aduaka (Nigerian director, Ezra) and Valérie Osouf (French director), Alain Gomis also works with producer Oumar Sall (Cinékap) on a training program for young filmmakers and technicians in Senegal (Up Court-métra- ges). Félicité is his 4th feature-length film.

The Massachusetts College of Art and Design Ciné Culture (MACC) screening series was established in 2018 by filmmaker and MassArt Film/Video department chair Soon-Mi Yoo. Each semester, the series brings to campus a diverse group of filmmakers and moving image artists for screenings, panel discussions, master classes, and performances.

Presently, public Ciné Culture screenings are held virtually and asynchronously, with “in person” filmmaker discussions / Q&A’s on Zoom on Tuesdays at 7pm. Follow MassArt Film/Video on Eventbrite for announcements of upcoming events and to register for film and Zoom links. Beginning in the Spring 2022 semester, current students and members of the MassArt Community are invited to view the featured films in person on Monday evenings in the Design and Media Lecture Hall on MassArt’s campus. Live DMC screenings are required for current Film/Video BFA Seniors and Film/Video MFA candidates.
