About this Event
What is the rich but often overlooked history of Boston's Chinatown? How did it overcome numerous challenges from historical exclusion to contemporary gentrification? How did it experience the Covid-19 pandemic and what are the legacies? What role can art and activism play in the community? Please join us on October 30 (Wednesday, 11am-1pm) for a panel discussion at the Huntington Studio entitled "In the Eyes of Artists and Activists: Boston's Chinatown Past, Present and Future." It features three distinguished artists and community leaders: Lani Asuncion (Public Art Manager and Curator, Pao Arts Center Un-Monument Projects), Mary Chin (CEO, Asian American Civic Association), and Wen-ti Tsen (Painter and Public Artist). The first half of the program will be the presentations of our panelists, followed by an extensive Q/A session. The discussion will be facilitated by Lisong Liu who teaches Asian American history at MassArt. This program is kindly sponsored by Academic Affairs, Center for Art and Community Partnerships (CACP), Humanities Department, and Justice, Equity and Transformation (JET) Office.
