About this Event
Ever wonder why funeral homes are housed in vintage mansions? Come find out as Professor Lampros explores the fascinating history of the residential funeral home in the United States, why it matters, and what funeral homes can teach us about the American way of death, how and why buildings get recycled, and how we use objects and spaces to tell our stories. He’ll discuss his book, Preserved: A Cultural History of the Funeral Home in America (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2024), why he decided to research and write about funeral homes, and why understanding buildings and landscapes is crucial to the study of American History. Please join us as we explore what funeral homes can teach us about ourselves and the built environment. Everything has a history, and everyone has a voice!
