About this Event
In this first talk of the History Lunch Series, Prof. Liu will share his teaching and research experiences on the history of Boston—the city where we live, study, connect, and create. Dubbed “the hub of the universe,” Boston carries a complex history that unfolds at local, national, and global levels. Drawing on his current book project on the Chinese experience in Boston—from the early China Trade to the development of Chinatown through the Chinese Exclusion Era and postwar urban renewal—Prof. Liu will discuss the interconnections of these different scales of history. He will also reflect on teaching Walking Boston, a new course that takes students to the Freedom Trail, the Black Heritage Trail, the Women’s Heritage Trail, and the Immigrant Heritage Trails. In addition, Prof. Liu will highlight the vibrant history program we are building at MassArt. Join us in exploring our shared community and share history—Everything Has a History, and Everyone Has a Voice!
