About Striking: Silver and Steel
Dec. 8, 2024 - Feb. 16, 2025
Closing reception Feb. 7th 7-9 pm
The Striking: Silver and Steel exhibition is an exceptional showcase powered by the Artisans Asylum Jewelry Shop. Heather White and Rhea Vedro are alchemists in the craft of hammering. This exhibition highlights the vibrant intersection of artistry, craftsmanship, and community engagement, featuring the talents of Heather White and Rhea Vedro as our visiting artists in residency. The hammer is elemental to the manufactured world we inhabit. The hammer transfigures intention into object. Reaching deep into our collective subconscious, it appears throughout folklore and history (Thor, John Henry, Ogun, The Hammer and Sickle) as a representation of strength and will power.
Rhea is the Metals Artist in Residence and Lecturer at MIT’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering and is unveiling a new public art sculpture commission for Boston’s City Hall Plaza spring 2025.
Heather is Full Professor at Massachusetts College of Art and Design’s 3D Fine Arts Department, Jewelry and Metalsmithing Program, and her works are in many collections including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Smithsonian's Renwick Gallery, Washington DC.
