The MassArt Graduate Programs and Photography department are pleased to welcome Martin Kollar as a speaker of the Fall 2026 Photography Lecture Series. Please join us in the Tower Auditorium at 2:00pm on Tuesday, October 27.

Martin Kollar, born in 1971 in Žilina, former Czechoslovakia (now Slovakia), studied cinematography at the Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. He works as a photographer, cinematographer, and film director, and lives between Paris and Bratislava.

Kollar has received major international awards and grants, including the Prix Elysée and the Leica Oskar Barnack Award. His work has been exhibited internationally at institutions including the Brooklyn Museum, the Slovak National Gallery, the Martin-Gropius-Bau, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, and the Musée de l’Elysée.

Kollar has released several photobooks, including Nothing Special (2008, Actes Sud), Cahier (2011, Diaphane), Field Trip (2013, Mack), Catalogue (2015, SNG), Provisional Arrangement (2016, Mack), and After (2021, Mack). 

His work is included in major public collections such as the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Fonds national d’art contemporain, the Centre national des arts plastiques, the Slovak National Gallery, and the Musée de l’Elysée.

As a cinematographer, Kollar has collaborated on several acclaimed films, including 107 Mothers (2021), Koza (2015), Velvet Terrorists (2013), Cooking History (2009), and 66 Seasons (2003). As a director, he made 5 October (2016) and Chronicle / Letopis (2025).
