Continuing the Fall 2024 Photography Lecture Series the MassArt Graduate Programs and Photography department are pleased to welcome Stephanie Tung. Please join us in the Tower Auditorium at 2pm on Tuesday, November 19.

Stephanie H. Tung is the Byrne Family Curator of Photography at the Peabody Essex Museum. She leads the interpretation and presentation of the museum’s growing photography collection. Her research focuses on transnational art exchanges, global modernism, and translation studies. Tung is a contributor to Aperture and Trans-Asia Photography Review, as well as contributing author to The Chinese Photobook (Aperture, 2015), Art and China After 1989: Theater of the World (Guggenheim, 2017), and co-author of Ai Weiwei: Beijing 1993-2003 (MIT Press, 2019). Her publication, Power and Perspective: Early Photography in China (PEM, 2022), was co-authored with Karina Corrigan, and won the Photography Network 2023 Book Prize and 2024 Bei Shan Tang Catalogue Prize. She most recently served as guest-editor for the summer 2023 issue of Aperture magazine, titled Being and Becoming: Asian in America. She holds a B.A. from Harvard University, an M.A. from Princeton University, and is completing her Ph.D. in Princeton University's Art and Archeology program.
