The MassArt Graduate Programs and MFA Fine Arts Low-Residency welcome Gabriela Gamboa as the final speaker of the MFA Summer 2026 Lecture Series in the Design and Media Center Lecture Hall on Thursday, July 30 at 1:00pm.

Gabriela Gamboa is a multidisciplinary artist born in Pittsburgh and raised in Venezuela. Working across video, photography, printmaking, and performance, her practice examines conditions of displacement, exile, and transformation, with particular attention to the fragmented geographies of belonging produced through migration. Her work engages questions of temporality and perception, constructing immersive, research-driven narratives that interrogate the instability between memory, presence, and landscape.

Gamboa received her BFA in Art and Design from the University of Chicago and an MFA in Visual Art from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Her work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally at institutions including the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Caracas, Venezuela; Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Lima, Peru; Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Santiago, Chile; and Museo de Arte Contemporáneo del Zulia, Venezuela.

She is the recipient of the Ellies Creator Award from Oolite Arts (2021, 2025) and the Harris Barron Alumni Fellowship (2024) from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, which supported her participation as a summer fellow at the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts.

Gamboa is currently based in Miami, Florida, where she is a resident artist at the Bakehouse Art Complex.
