The upcoming 1965 Freedom Rally echoes the spirit of marches and demonstrations, and it serves a deeper purpose. It is an experience intentionally designed to create a space of belonging where attendees feel seen, and where they can authentically connect with others who share a vision for a just and equitable future.

It provides momentum, inspiration, and the community fellowship that is required for democratic maintenance. It is key to social infrastructure—or the collection of spaces and organizations where people can gather informally to connect and build community. By working within recognizable event frameworks and infusing them with deeper strategies for democratic maintenance, these gatherings lay the groundwork for sustained civic engagement and community building. They set the stage for rejuvenation for those weary in the fight for change, direction for those lost in the midst of division, and allyship for those fighting for justice in marginalizing spaces.
